Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Zarkent, Parkent district, Tashkent region. M.V. Mikulin, T.M. Kremlyakova, M.P. Safarov (Safarov et al., 1999f.). Stratotype to the north of the village of Zarkent along the Kokaksay (Mikulin et al., 1982).

Synonym: Zarkent Topitsa, Заркентская т.


Lithology and Thickness

Composed of four subcomplexes with well-defined paleosols of bright brown color with distinct illuvial layers (shohi) of dirty white or light gray color. Thickness up to 20-30 cm and loess of pinkish-gray, dark gray, porous, with phytocanals, and sometimes rare striping. Thickness 57-60m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

T. lies conformably on the lower part of the Nanay Gr. Schematic stratigraphic column indicates Karamazar Fm

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by subaerial deposits of the Sukok Gr. (Safarov et al., 1999).

Regional extent

Widely distributed in the foothills and mid-mountain areas of the Chatkal-Kuramin region, interfluves of the Chirchik and Angren rivers. Previously, it was distinguished as the Zarkent layers (Mikulin et al., 1982), covering the upper part of the Nanay Gr and the Tashkent Gr

Age 

The age of which is determined by the paleomagnetic method as older than 0.73 million years. According to X.A. Toychiev (471v), paleomagnetic data - the presence of the Matuyama epoch in the lower part of t. and the Brunhes epoch in the upper part - indicate an Eopleistocene-Neopleistocene age.
